Is Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to Mac?

Feral Interactive’s unfamous radar has a new UFO. It’s called O Vain Illusion of Glory and Grandeur and it looks like this:

And some are confident it has to be Rise of the Tomb Raider!

That radar is Feral’s way of hinting what their current projects are and what games they expect to release next. I’m not resourceful (or creative) enough to figure them out, but luckily some are.

According to an IMG reader, Mr Pink, this hint must be Rise of the Tomb Raider:

‘O Vain Illusion of Glory and Grandeur’, is an aria in the 3rd act of the opera ‘The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya’, by Rimsky-Korsakov.

The city of Kitezh is a central part of ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’.

This is far from a confirmation. Please don’t go buy it just yet. That said, I’m pretty confident he got it right…

A big deal for Mac gaming

Getting Rise of the Tomb Raider on Mac would be great. Not only is it the sequel to the stellar Tomb Raider reboot (named one of our Top Mac games ever, by the way), it is supposed to be even better.

With an 86/100 Metascore, Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t stray too far from the original Tomb Raider but manages to nonetheless improve it in every imaginable way.

Given how good the first Tomb Raider was, that is no small feat. From PC Gamer’s review:

In many ways, Rise of the Tomb Raider is peak sequel design: an incredibly similar game with a set of expanded and additional systems. But RotTR is also better because it lets you spend more time engaging with those systems.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was an Xbox exclusive but was since released on Windows and PS4. Taking into account the good relationship Feral Interactive had to have with Crystal Dynamics to secure the port of the original Tomb Raider, this is a rumor I am happy to spread.

Don’t go buying it just yet, but mark my words, we will get an official announcement soon enough…

“Don’t go buying it just yet, but mark my words, we will get an official announcement soon enough…”

It should be mentioned that even if confirmed, games should not be bought before the actual Mac release, because otherwise it won’t count as a Mac purchase and thus don’t advance the honorable cause of Mac Gaming.

      Yes! Support Mac porting houses

Totally agree, if you don’t buy it with a Mac or use it on a Mac, it won’t “count” towards the porting company behind the game…
