Path of Exile 2 is coming to macOS “as soon as possible”

Path of Exile 2, from Grinding Gear Games, is set to expand the horizons of action RPGs on the Mac platform. While the official release date for the macOS version is yet to be announced, the excitement is palpable among fans of the genre. With the game now released in Early Access on December 6, 2024, on Windows and consoles, here’s everything we know about Path of Exile 2 on the Mac.

Set years after the events of the first game, Path of Exile 2 introduces a brand-new campaign with six acts, over 600 monsters, and a staggering 100 bosses. The game retains its free-to-play model, ensuring accessibility for all players. With a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes, the sequel significantly expands character customization options.

The game was originally set to arrive on all platforms, including the Mac, simultaneously. Unfortunately, plans have changed. Mac support just went from a confirmed supported platform to a likely platform. As stated on the official Path of Exile 2 Steam page:

We can only wait and hope GGG changes its mind and decides to prioritize Mac support sooner. In the meantime, we’re currently going through the campaign with a Monk leveling build using CrossOver.

Can you run Path of Exile 2 on Mac?

Path of Exile 2 is expected to inherit its predecessor’s compatibility with macOS, including support for Apple Silicon Macs such as M1, M2, and M3 models. The original game’s performance on macOS, particularly on M1-based MacBooks, was noteworthy, offering smooth gameplay with steady frame rates. This bodes well for Path of Exile 2, which will likely leverage the same or improved optimization techniques for macOS.
