Update: The game is now live on Steam and the Mac App Store.
Rise and Fall, the latest expansion to Civilization 6, is finally live on Mac.
Released for Windows on February 2, 2018, Rise and Fall isn’t your average expansion that simply introduces a few more units and maps. This Expansion aims to make significant enhancements to the game, daring to play with the fundamentals and make bold changes and additions.
Sure, it does include the expected new units, leaders, buildings, and wonders, but Rise and Fall’s real appeal are the new gameplay features such as a new Loyalty system, Golden and Dark ages, improved Alliances and more.
The game’s lead designer, Anton Strenger, does a good job further explaining what the main new features are all about over here.
What’s important right now though, is that it has been praised by reviewers and everyone seems to agree it vastly improves the original Civ 6, a game regarded as one of the top strategy games available. And it’s finally available on MacOS and Linux.
Civ 6 Rise and Fall on Mac: Everything you need to know
Requiring Civilization 6 to run, you can expect Rise and Fall to be a very demanding game too. If you’re unsure whether your machine will have the required horsepower to properly run it, you might want to check our Performance Review where we tested the game on several Mac models.
These are the official minimum system requirements:
- Operating System: OSX 10.11, 10.12, 10.13
- CPU Processor: Intel Core i5
- CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
- Memory: 6 GB
- Hard Disk Space: 15 GB
- Video Card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 6970, NVIDIA GeForce 775M, Intel Iris Pro
- Video Memory (VRam): 1 GB
Note that Rise and Fall for Mac will not include the latest Windows patch released on March 8, 2017, making cross-platform multiplayer unavailable for the time being.
Finally, Rise and Fall will not be included with the Digital Deluxe pack which means you’ll have to purchase this Expansion separately.
Rise and Fall is available on the Mac App Store as an in-app purchase for $29.99.
