Forget about Mac games torrents: Do This Instead

Why are Mac games torrent sites popping up all over the place?

And somehow, they offer every popular game under the sun for free, including those that do not have a MacOS version! Fifa 18 on Mac? Seriously?

Fifa 18 Mac version?

Putting aside the fact piracy is wrong, you should be careful. I would never download anything from sites like that because there are only two possible outcomes:

  • Best case scenario: It's a wrapped version of a Windows pirated copy that probably won't work.
  • Worst case scenario: It's a virus.

Either way, it's not worth it. Luckily, there's a better alternative that may not be free, but is very cheap, legal, and supports developers. I'm talking about the many ridiculously huge gaming sales.

Need proof? Try the Steam Autumn Sale

Today is Cyber Monday, which means there's a lot of tech-related stuff for sale everywhere. But if you want cheap games, Steam's Autumn sale is the way to go. These are some of my favorite deals right now:

  • Counter-Strike is $0.99 (90% off)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution is $2.99 (85% off)
  • Tomb Raider is $3.99 (80% off)
  • Fez is $2.49 (75% off)
  • Borderlands 2 is $4.99 (75% off)
  • Torchlight 2 is $3.99 (75% off)
  • Portal 2 is $1.99 (90% off)
  • Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine is $1.49 (90% off)

And there are hundreds more. But you'll have to hurry because the sale ends tomorrow.

But what if  I don't have much money to spend on games?

Money is no longer an excuse for pirating, especially when there are critically acclaimed games for less than $5!

Some of the deals you can find for digital games are just unbelievable. And when it comes to ludicrous deals, Steam is king. There's a reason why its sales are famous, with irresistible deals gamers can't refuse (how big is your pile of shame?). If there's one store to watch, it's Steam.

Steam hosts 4 sales per year and the dates for the next three have been leaked:

  • Steam Halloween Sale: October 26, 2017 - November 1, 2017
  • Steam Autumn Sale: November 22, 2017 - November 28, 2017
  • Steam Winter Sale: December 21, 2017 - January 4, 2018

And they also host a Steam Summer Sale (last year, it started on June 23).

Steam Autumn Sale 2017

That gives you four windows to buy so many games there won't be enough hours in a day to play them all.

But there are even more now...

In-between Steam sales, gamers had to be patient if they wanted good gaming deals, but that's no longer the case.

Every other major digital store is fighting hard to steer you away from Steam and also host huge sales. These are the main digital stores you need to bookmark if you're looking for sweet gaming deals:

  • GOG.com: They specialize in indies and older titles and also have huge sales on The Witcher games.
  • Fanatical: Formerly known as Bundle Stars, they often have huge sales on popular games.
  • Humble Bundle: Famous for their bundles, they also have a store with great deals and more.

Between the Steam sales and all the other sales from GOG.com, Fanatical and Humble Bundle, you don't really need Mac torrent games anymore. Plus, you'll be a good citizen that doesn't pirate stuff and supports the gaming industry. 🙂

What if I really want free games?

Worry not. Competition is so fierce, some stores go as far as to give games for free. And I don't mean obscure indies you've never heard of, I mean popular games you get to keep forever.

Outlast free on Humble Bundle

Humble Bundle does it often, but I've seen GOG and Steam give away games too. The only problem is that you need to show up before the offer expires. And most offers only last a couple of days.

That means you'll need to visit all these stores often if you don't want to miss the best offers...

But what if I don't have the time?

Not everyone can visit every store, every day, in hopes of finding the best deals. There is no shortage of deals, but you'll need to check the various stores manually to find the hidden gems underneath the hundreds of mediocre games on sale.

A good alternative is to use a something like Cheap Shark or Is There Any Deal. Both sites do a good job at tracking the games on sale at any given time and try their best to rank them for you.

The thing is, they are made for Windows-PC gamers. If you want to find the best Mac gaming deals, you'll need to check the deals one by one and see which games support macOS. That too is frustrating and can take a lot of time.

The good news is that Mac Gamer HQ will be offering something to help you with that. Think Humble Monthly, but cheaper, with better deals, goodies, and made especially for Mac gamers.

The reveal is coming next Monday, December 4th. So mark your calendar and join the waiting list 🙂

Macgamesworld is not a pirating site. Its just prettified page that relay doesn't offer you a download. Probably DL's a virus...

Especially if you go to http://humblebundle.com they often have game bundles that let you PAY WHAT YOU WANT. Of course they'll throw a bunch of extra games into the pot if you pay more than the average. I've accumulated tons of games through that site over years. If you don't need to play the newest games they day they're out, don't pay full price.

Tell me about it, I've become a HUGE fan of Humble Bundle man. But you're right, you can end up with lots of games you don't really care about when buying bundles.
Then again, you can always do what I do, get the games you DO want and give away the rest 😉
