You can forget about Killing Floor 2 for Mac…

I think it’s time to go ahead and kill this rumor…

We all got excited when first-person shooter Killing Floor 2 launched on Steam Early Access and developer Tripwire Interactive announced a Linux and SteamOS version.

If they release it on Linux, why not on Mac, especially as the macOS platform is bigger. Or so I thought… When I finally got a hold of them, they said:

Ever since, the Linux version was first outsourced to Knockout Games and later put entirely on hold. When asked about the Linux version on the Steam forums, Tripwire said:

It is not something actively in development at this time, but our engine team continues to evaluate it as a potential task weighed against the rest of their workload.

So there you have it. If they’re shelving a port they publicly announced, it’s safe to assume a Mac version is virtually impossible now.

Yet all is not lost…

Killing Floor 2 got me really excited for a while there. This is a 6-player co-op zombie shooter with over 30,000 very positive reviews on Steam. It even got a new 12-player Versus Survival mode which looks like a lot of fun…

Killing Floor 2 Mac

I can’t really blame Tripwire. They never said they were working on a Mac version and even took the time to get back to me to confirm that.

But more importantly, you have solid Mac alternatives. For starters, you can check out Valve’s awesome Left 4 Dead 2, one of my favorite first-person shooters on Mac. It too has co-op (albeit 4-players only) and hundreds of zombies to kill.

There’s also the original Killing Floor (which supports macOS) and Shadow Warrior, another good game with its fair share of demons to hunt.

Finally, if you’re more into the zombies themselves than the shooting, you can try the excellent The Walking Dead from Telltale Games or Project Zomboid.

Asked the same two weeks ago, same reply!

    • If you ever get any news on this, please let me know!
In any case, it was cool that they gave a reply, even if it wasn’t what I was hoping for…

It’ll probably happen, they are definitely making a SteamOS version.

    • Yep, we can only hope that going from SteamOS to a Mac OS X version isn’t much of a technical or ressources leap…

Well Killing Floor 1 was for Mac I’m not sure how long till they made it Mac compatible after it’s release but, if they didn’t would worry me on why make the first one but not the second one compatible.

    • Sure hope so! I will keep on harassing them every now and then 😉
