75 Best Mac Games

The number 1 question we get by mail is always the same:

What are the best Mac games out there?

After answering it a couple hundred times, I decided it was time to give you a definitive answer once and for all.

If you’re just starting to game on your Mac or simply lack inspiration when it comes to buying your next game, this list is for you. If you’re wondering why your favorite game isn’t here, you can scroll down to the end of this article and read the selection rules.

While it was hard to chose among hundreds of top-notch Mac games, here are our 75 Best Mac Games. We decided to not rank them and instead give you a more flexible way to explore the list and facilitate your search.

The 75 Best Mac games

You can filter the games by alphabetical order, release date, genre, Metascore or simply search for a specific game.

Note: The “Download Links” below are affiliate links, meaning I get a commission if you and buy the games there. But don’t worry, you’ll still get the best price available. This is how I pay the bills… Thanks for your support!

First of all, we would like to thank you for all the feedback you have sent our way. As pointed out by many of you, the criteria used here needs to be crystal clear in order to avoid “How could you not add XXXX game?“. These are the criteria used for the list below:

  • We only took into account “modern games”: They had to be released in the last 10 years on the Mac.
  • The best were selected based on many things: Reviews, PC Metacritic scores, personal favorites.

Feeling like your own personal favorites are missing but truly deserve a spot? Please let us know in the comments section (we do reply to ALL the comments)!

It’s nice to have a list but the layout seems somehow broken at the end of it, and I cannot perform any filtering on the list(I’ve tried in multiple browsers). Please fix it. Thanks

You are completely right, some code got in the way and was left unnoticed, thanks for the heads up! It was REALLY broke :S

The game appears to run flawlessly, nice one! You should do some OS X native ones too ;)

rename to top 60 Modern Mac games and their expansions.

I see no Diablo 3 Reaper of souls, nor do I see a torchlight 2.

    • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

Fair comment. Removing some expansions makes sense, yes. Reaper of Souls is not in it because I haven’t updated the list (but I will as it deserves a place) BUT Torchlight 2 needs to come out on the Mac before I can add it…..

      • shyataroo

Torchlight 2 virtualizes wonderfully, though, for those of us with VMware fusion or parallels. So it ALMOST counts.

        • shyataroo

Also I have to somewhat disagree with you on dragonage 2 belonging on this list, as it uses heavily recycled environments throughout the entire game and is somewhat lacking in several other aspects, when compared to the previous entry in the series.

          • shyataroo

I am also not seeing dungeon defenders, which as I will attest to any day of the week, is a shining jewel in mac gaming.

          • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

I have to say, Dungeon Defenders feels a little too iOS for me…

          • Chris Tallant

THANK YOU! Finally someone else who thinks this way! I loaded Dungeon Defenders when it came out in a bundle with Hero Academy (or Hero Siege…I don’t remember anymore) and went.. “Don’t I already have these on my iPad?”

          • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

You just get me man…. lol
I can see people loving that but with WoW, LoTRO and even Guild Wars 2, why play that??

          • Chris Tallant

I can see playing them on an iPad.. but I’d rather play Hearthstone.. or a game with a better point. However, I still can’t see why people still pay money to have their farms (or whatever the point to pay real money) in Farmville for.. so maybe I’m not the proper demographic.

          • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

That’s a perfect example. At end the world is made of very different people…..

          • Chris Tallant

People enjoy playing what they want to lose themselves into.. I’m not going to judge. The fact that Candy Crush still makes millions a day baffles me, but I didn’t think of it first.

          • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

Hey man, Sorry for the late reply. I completely agree with you on this. I should be looking for a good Dragon Age 2 replacement. It wasn’t close to what the original Dragon Age did.. Man how I loved that game. I almost melted by Aluminium Macbook Pro so much I played!

          • Chris Tallant

            Dragon Age 2 = Witcher 2?

          • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

Witcher 2 is already on the list man.

          • Chris Tallant

And Witcher 3 is coming out soon.. If you put your CD keys into GoG’s site (for the DRM free version of the game, hint hint, wink wink..wait..) you get a nice discount on the pre-order for Witcher 3…

          • Chris Tallant

well.. CD keys for Witcher 1 and 2.. which everyone should already have on Steam since they’re going for $2 and $3.

            SO GET THEM NOW.

        • http://macgamerhq.com/ Mac Gamer Ric

LOL, sorry man but ALMOST is not enough, otherwise what is the point of dedicated mac gaming site? And with Reaper of Souls now out, I don’t miss Torchlight that much anymore…

        • Chris Tallant

Fusion doesn’t pass video card information to the VM box. Not wise for gaming… I fell into that trap.
