Racing fans, warm up your Macs and dust off your racing wheels: Grid Autosport is now available for Mac.
Released on December 10, Grid Autosport is the latest racing game from Codemasters and is supposed to bring an improved handling model, better graphics and more.
Unlike Grid 2, which was much more focused on casual gamers and street racing, Grid Autosport is a return to the basics. This game is meant to appeal to long-time fans, those who loved the classic TOCA games or the original Pro Race Driver.
Other than focusing on the actual motorsport, the game also brings more than twice as many genuine racing circuits, over 80 race cars and five different driving disciplines.
Each discipline demands a specific skill-set: Touring events require aggressiveness, Endurance races require focus, Open-Wheel driving requires precision, Street circuits require quick reaction times and the Tuner courses require finesse.
Among the 80 highly desirable rides, you get to choose among front-wheel-drive hot hatches, Muscle cars, lightweight open-wheelers and 1,000 horsepower hypercars, by manufacturers including Jaguar, McLaren, Pagani and Aston Martin. And to really enjoy those machines, the game puts at your disposal 22 locations around the world, including purpose-built circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, and city street circuits such as Barcelona and San Francisco.
The game also features an online career mode, where players can purchase, customize, tune and race a unique garage of vehicles. On Steam, multiplayer is cross-platform and supported by Steamworks, and on the Mac App Store, multiplayer will be Mac-Mac and supported by Feral’s own matching service.
All versions of GRID Autosport feature head-to-head split-screen multiplayer, and support a wide range of third-party gamepads and driving wheels (I tested my Xbox 360 wired controller and it works perfectly).
The game’s system requirements call for a 1.8Ghz CPU with at least 4GB RAM and Mac OS 10.10.5 or later. In the Graphics card department, you will need at least an AMD 5000 series, Intel HD 4000 series or NVIDIA 600 series. New MacBooks are unfortunately not supported (Intel HD 5300).
