Frostbite Engine coming to the Mac

Frostbite Engine coming to the Mac

DICE, the swedish developers behind the hardcore First-Person Shooter Battlefield 3, is planing on bringing their state of the art engine to the Mac.

According to a recent job posting at their website, DICE is actively looking for a Mac OS X engineer to help take their engine to “the next level”:

Frostbite is looking for developers who want to join us in taking our engine to the next level. You will be part of a team focusing on bringing Frostbite to Mac and work closely with game team customers and the Frostbite team to deliver an engine as great on OS X as it is on Windows and traditional console platforms.

This of course is not yet a reality, as the project is barely starting. However, the possibilities are very exiting! By bringing their engine Frostbite 2 to the Mac, both DICE and EA could bring their best games to the Mac without much problems. Just imagine having Battlefield 3, Need for Speed: The Run or even Medal of Honor on the Mac…

The Run would be a great addition to Mac racing games…

This would also mean more chances to get future Frostbite-games such as Battlefield 4, Dragon Age III: Inquisition or even future Mass Effect games!

Thanks to Joystiq for the news.

Have you ever played a Frostbite 2 game? Are you exited about DICE bringing it to the Mac? Don’t forget to leave a comment!

  1. The timing makes sense, now that they are bringing Origin to Mac.

    • Indeed! Some support from EA will definitely be welcomed! (even if it comes in the shape of the generally hated Origin service….).

  2. I really like this site I am switching to mac soon (I’m a little mad my computer crashed when I just finished what I wrote so two times a charm.) I was a PC user but didn’t use it much for gaming I used my xbox due to that is where my friends are and in addition halo is my favorite game series. I have a few questions.

    - What macbook should I get don’t know much about mac computers or in this case laptops (Due to money what would be better 13-inch or 15-inch macbook pro the ones without “retina display”). I would use it for gaming, school, and me and a group of friends wanna try game making and plan on making it run best for mac. It’s just us having fun it may never get done but I will keep you guys updated the support would help you never know it might be the next indie game of the year.

    - How well does Roman:Total War run on mac. This is my favorite RTS.

    - What games run well for mac any to stay away from. Though I think I’m going to stay a xbox player because that’s were my friends are.

    - How well does this “bootcamp” thing for running windows work.

    - Should I make a new engine (The reason I ask is I hear about people who make a engine but it takes so long they give up and never start the game itself.) or look for a engine meant for mac I would take a look at any links you guys would give me. I would also like the opinion of you guys.

    - I would be open to ideas we were thinking of a platformer just as a starting point. Me and my group is kinda lost but like I said it’s just for fun.

I really enjoy this site and feedback would be great. I know this is off topic but I would enjoy help.
Ric M your site has helped me alot. How I found it was through the “The State Of Mac Gaming” post. Yeah I would enjoy the help I think I’m going to enjoy mac. Very sorry if I’m illegible.
